Mary Townley Proscher

1/2/1938 – 10/23/2021

Mary Proscher passed away peacefully at her home in Mt. Shasta on October 23, 2021.

Born to Roy and Julianna Townley, Mary was raised in Little Shasta, California, where she graduated from Yreka High School before attending and graduating from UC Berkeley. After working a couple of years in the Bay Area, Mary became an elementary school teacher in Pinole, California and eventually worked for the Department of Defense as a teacher in Gelnhausen, Germany. Upon returning to the United States she finished her teaching career at Mt. Shasta Elementary School where she retired in 1993 after 32 years of being an educator.

Mary took great pride and pleasure teaching her 1st and 2nd graders and seeing their progress through and beyond elementary school. She was remembered by former students with much love and appreciation.

Mary is survived by her son, Eric, daughter-in-law Elke, and two grandchildren, Sean and Alexis, as well as her brother Steve Townley and sister Julie Townley.

Mary was an avid reader, gardener and cook. She took great pleasure in having family visits and socializing with friends and preparing holiday meals for family and friends. Also, as a lover of pets Mary always had several cats and dogs which she sheltered and loved.

Donations in Mary's memory may be made to Siskiyou Humane Society, 1208 North Mt. Shasta Blvd and the Mt. Shasta Library 515 East Alma Street in Mt. Shasta.

There will be a Celebration of Life held at a later date and site to be determined.
