Richard Gary Thorpe, 84, of Sacramento, California, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2022, with his loved ones by his side.

Richard was born on May 8, 1937 to Bernice and Bud Thorpe in McCloud, California. Richard graduated from Weed High School in 1955 and went on to get his Associate’s degree at the College of the Siskiyous. Richard was a great athlete and enjoyed participating in many sports in high school and college. Richard was a four-letter man in high school and was inducted into the Weed High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011. After college Richard went into the army serving from 1961-1964. When he got back from the Army Richard and some close friends toured Europe via a Volkswagen Bus for 3-4 months, which was an adventure he cherished his whole life.

In 1965, Richard met Leslie Sellers in Weed, California. Richard and Leslie were married on January 22, 1966. The two moved to Sacramento to settle down and have children, and have lived there ever since. Richard enjoyed a long career in Finance and Real Estate Appraising and finally retired in 2007. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family and his large group of friends. Richard was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan and lived and died with each game. Even if he was disappointed with the outcome of a game his loyalty never wavered. Richard was also that way with his friends and family.

Richard is predeceased by Bernice and Bud Thorpe. Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years Leslie, his daughters Terri and Tiffani, his son-in-laws Dean and Rob, his grandchildren Kody and wife Laura, Kyla and husband Jack, Ryder and Alyssa, his great grandchild John, and his sister Kim. Richard will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Services will be held at the Mount Shasta Memorial Chapel on January 29, 2022 at 1:00 pm.
