Melvin Dale Acord

Melvin Dale Acord 85 of Mount Shasta passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 16th, 2022 surrounded by his family.

Melvin was born on October 2, 1936 in Hydro, Oklahoma to Earl and Opal Acord and moved to California at the age of 4.

Melvin is survived by his wife Sallie of 58 years, son Mikel (Anne Marie) (Mt. Shasta), son Mark (Toni), (Mt. Shasta), daughter, Chelly (Eddie), (Yreka) and son Melvin Jr. (Mt. Shasta).

Melvin had 4 grandchildren, Hollie (Mt. Shasta), Tyler (Corinne), (Vancouver, WA), Kyle (Yreka) and Brandon (Mt. Shasta). Melvin had 3 great granddaughters, Layla, (Vancouver, WA), Haidyn (Mt. Shasta) and Isabella (Vancouver, WA). He also had numerous nieces and nephews.

He is also preceded in death by his parents Earl and Opal Acord, his three brothers, Alfred, Delano (Georgie) and Lowell (Geraldine).

Melvin served in the Air Force as a mechanic for four years, serving in Anchorage Alaska for 2 years, followed by 2 years in Louisiana.

He worked hard all of his life until the age of 82. He drove a logging truck and had the nick name, “Big Daddy.” Those of you that knew Melvin said it was hard to keep up with him, even as he got close to retirement. He loved to fish and watch his grandson play sports. On occasion you could catch him at Win River Casino hitting the slots!

If you knew Melvin, you would often see him hanging out at Black Bear Diner with his sidekick, Melvin Jr.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 26th 2022, 11:00 AM at Hope Community Church, 974 Lassen Lane, Mt Shasta.
