Fred “Shoe Tree” Horrell


March 13, 1935-June 22, 2022

Fred was born in Cedar Creek, Arkansas on his Grandparents farm.

He lived in several states before coming to Orosi, California in 1942.

As an only child, his parents, Fred and Wilma settled in Orland in 1949, where he graduated from high school in 1953.

Fred spent two years in Germany in the army. When he returned to Orland, he met his wife, Dolores “Dee” Knecht. They married in 1958.

Fred went into the shoe business in Chico, Woodland, and Sacramento and eventually traveled throughout Northern California and Oregon wholesaling shoes while residing in Eugene, Oregon.

In 1967 he opened the “Shoe Tree” in Mt. Shasta, where he and his family lived for 23 years.

In 1990 he and Dee relocated to Redding where he was employed by a large wholesale company as a traveling salesman. He returned to Orland semi retired in 1992.

Fred was an outdoorsman, he liked to ride dirt bikes, bird hunting, river rafting and fishing. He also wrote poetry (mostly humorous) and was a artful joke teller. He was proud of and enjoyed his own sense of humor!

Fred is survived by his wife Dee of Orland, CA.

Son Blake and Kathy of Park City, Utah

Daughter Gina Horrell of Orland CA.

Son Scott and wife Nancy of Redding, CA.

Son Kip Horrell of Orland, CA.

Fred also has two Grandsons, a Granddaughter

and two Great Grandchildren
