Long time Dunsmuir resident Viola Marie Dorst went home to be with Jesus on Friday July 9,2022 at the age of 91. She was born in Grand Island, Nebraska in 1930. When the garden was newly plowed, she loved to walk bare foot along the furrows and chew on the raw wheat.
Viola is survived by her sisters Joyce Gentry and Marilyn Young and by her brother Danny Bornman. Viola is survived by her six children: Victoria Southland, Debby Jansen, Scarlett Poovey, Mike Rausch, Crystal Leighty, and Sherry Hubbard. She has 18 grandchildren and she has 40 great grandchildren.
Viola was a loving, kind, compassionate woman. Everyone who knew her loved her. She promoted Bible study and prayer. For many years she hosted a weekly Bible study in her front room. In a Billy Grahm tent revival meeting in 1949, Viola put her trust in Jesus for her salvation.
She was active in her church, Bible studies, she was an avid gardener, she was active bowler, and in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Viola loved being with family and friends camping and boating. She never wanted to leave this beautiful mountain community. She loved living by the river. She never lost her appreciation for the beauty around her.
