Obituary

Betty Joyce Lea died peacefully of natural causes in Weed California on Wednesday, September 14th 2022.

Betty (Grammy) was born to William Clifton Miles and Inez Levenia Allen on May 12th 1930 in Canutillo, El Paso county Texas. They later moved the family to Mount Shasta in Siskiyou county California where she grew up on the family farm near Cantara Loop.

She was married twice, first to Robert Earl Rath of Weed California in 1948 and gave birth to their daughter, Terry Dawn Rath on May 19th 1949. This marriage ended in divorce in 1966. Her second marriage was to Lloyd James Lea in Spokane Washington in 1971. They lived in Grenada California eventually purchasing a home together nearby, living there until Lloyd’s passing in 1986. Betty continued to live in that home on her own until November, 2021 when her battle with age related health issues required that she move into the Mount Shasta home of her daughter and son in law Terry and Ron Hart. She was cared for and surrounded by family, friends and her caregiver Shelly Vita until the very end.

Betty J. Lea was survived by her daughter and son in law, Terry and Ronald Hart, her 3 grandchildren, Lisa, Matt and Ron Jr., her great grandchildren Madisen and Mason, her step children Sherry, Jamie and Claudia, along with her nieces, one nephew and many of her wonderful friends.

Plans are being made for a future celebration of Betty’s life and eventual internment of her ashes alongside her husband Lloyd at Evergreen cemetery, Yreka California.
