Richard Lawrence Rusting, born April 26, 1937, passed away peacefully at home on July 17, 2020 with his loved ones by his side.
Richard, a California native was born in San Francisco and was raised in Daly City. He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in 1955. He subsequently enlisted in the United States Navy and came away from that experience with many stories that he enjoyed sharing. When Richard returned home, he married the love of his life and built a family, eventually taking a job with the City of Daly City as a mechanic maintaining police and fire vehicles, a job that he enjoyed until his retirement.
He had a love for Siskiyou County and eventually retired to the area where he could fly fish to his heart’s content. Richard was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in McCloud, a member of the McCloud Golf Club and the Knights of Columbus.
Richard was preceded in death by his son Michael, and his parents Lawrence and Lillian Rusting. He is survived by and will be missed by his sister Jean Weissgerber, his loving wife of 60 years Virginia Rusting (Paolini), his children Darlene Flynn (John) and Joseph Rusting. His grandchildren, Danielle Rusting, Jessica Wolf, Aaron “LJ” Rusting, and Breanna E. Rusting will find comfort in memories of time spent with Grampy. He also leaves behind his great grandchildren, Jayden, Austin, Marley and Lucas, as well as nieces, nephews and godchildren. His devoted companion Jessie, the McNab, will continue to look for him until they meet again at the Rainbow Bridge.
