May 4, 1928 - January 2, 2021
Mary (DeRoss) Pendergraft, age 92, went home to be with the Lord on January 2, 2021. She was born on May 4, 1928 in Weed, California, the daughter of Giovanni and Stella (Peruzzi) DeRoss of Paderno del Grappa, Italy. She graduated from Weed High School in 1946, after which she worked at the Weed Mercantile until she met and married Flint Pendergraft Jr in 1952. They
eventually moved to Walnut Creek, California where, together, they ran a successful pest control business until they divorced in 1983. She then began, what was to be a nearly 37-year career with Emporium/Capwell’s/Macy’s spending most of her time working in the fine china department. She loved helping people pick out just the right table setting, vase or Christmas ornament and ultimately became the resident Waterford expert for the Walnut Creek Macy’s. She retired in 2019 from Macy’s at the age of 90.
Mary was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in
Walnut Creek for over 60 years. She loved animals and took great joy in feeding and
watching the hummingbirds outside her kitchen windows. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, friend and, Noni to her six beautiful grand-children.
She is survived by her son, Flint Pendergraft III and Jody Stewart of Carmichael, CA; daughter Karen (Brad) Lebovitz of Walnut Creek, CA; son, Kevin (Lisa) Pendergraft of Alamo, CA; grand- children, Adam, Eric, Austin and Ethan Pendergraft of Alamo, CA; Marcus Lebovitz of Walnut Creek, CA and Jordan Lebovitz of Denver, CO; and numerous nephews and nieces, all of whom she loved and in return loved her. She will be greatly missed by all.
