After their 43-7 senior night win over Tulelake Friday, the Weed Cougars found out Saturday that they’ll play a first round Northern Section 8 Man playoff game Nov. 3 at Los Molinos.

Senior Harley Williams gained 201 yards on 16 carries and scored 2 touchdowns and 2 two-point conversions against the Honkers, while freshman Rob Berg returned a kickoff 75 yards for one of his two touchdowns.

Senior Bil Bedzyk ran for a touchdown and a two-point conversion, Xavia Martinez scored a TD, and senior TJ Virasonh had a conversion.

Williams, Enrique Sanchez, and freshman Clifford Owen had pass interceptions for the Weed defense.

The Cougars built a 36-0 lead in the first half, and the clock ran without stopping for much of the second half.

Now 7-2 overall, Weed finished third in the California North 8 Man League with a 5-2 record, behind Big Valley (7-0, 9-0) and Redding Christian (6-1, 6-3) and ahead of Butte Valley (3-4, 4-5), Hayfork (3-4, 5-4), Happy Camp (3-5, 3-7), Tulelake (2-5, 4-6) and Dunsmuir (0-7, 1-8).

Princeton, Los Molinos, and Greenville finished in a three-way tie at the top of the California South 8 Man League, all at 5-1 and 7-2. A tiebreaker based on points allowed in league play was used to determine their playoff seedings, according to Weed stats-keeper and former head coach Byron Mathes.

First round playoff games, including the Cougars at Los Molinos, are scheduled for Friday night, Nov. 3. The winner of that game will play in the semifinals Nov. 10 against either Big Valley or Loyalton at the home of the higher seed.

On the other side of the bracket, Butte Valley is scheduled to open the playoffs against Princeton, while Redding Christian will host Greenville.

Semifinal winners will play for the section championship Nov. 17.
