The South Siskiyou Swim Team competed at the EPAL/Scott Valley Swim team Sharkfest on Saturday and Sunday in Etna.
The team, based in Weed, finished in third place overall in the  first meet of the summer.
“It is a great start to a quick summer,” head coach Rich Viturino said. “The team represented well and left everything in the pool.”
South Siskiyou had team members finish in the top three in multi age groups, with 27 swimmers competing for the squad from Weed.
 For the girls, senior swimmer Rhian Viturino took home second in high point. She placed first in the 100 meter butterfly for 13-18 girls, while Mia Morris finished in  third in the same age group. Kaitlyn Kuendig was third in the girls 11-12 division in the 100M.  Kaley Lanier placed first in all the events she competed in and was first overall in the 9-10 girls division. Mihret Chandler was first overall for the 7-8 division. 
In the boys events, Alex Rhodes placed second overall in the 15-16 boys division. Travis  Kuendig was first in the 13-14 boys division.  Trevor Lanier was third overall for boys 9-10. 
The team brought home many second place finishes in the relay events.
In the girls 11-12 division,  Siskiyous was first in the 200 free relay Sunday afternoon. The team also placed first in the girls 9-10 200 free relay. 
Kaylee Campbell, Gillian Campbell, Neva Campbell and Lucas Dolf put in their first races this  past weekend.
This year, the South Siskiyou Swim Team has more than 80 team members from ages 4 to 18.
This season, the team will compete in the Paradise Firecracker event on July 6. They’ll compete in meets in   Durham and Orland on July 13 and 14. Siskiyous will also be at an event in Weaverville from July 19-21,  with the county meet on July 27 in Weed. Those that qualify will race in the NVALs Championships Aug. 2-4 in Redding.
