“This was a great win,” Etna High head varsity volleyball coach Christa Fournier said. “The girls came to play.”


The Etna Lady Lions earned a hard fought five set win over larger division program Yreka at home in front of a loud and enthusiastic crowd on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
Against the Lady Miners, the Lady Lions earned the win 25-15, 25-21, 25-27, 14-25, 15-11.
“This was a great win,” Etna High head varsity volleyball coach Christa Fournier said. “The girls came to play.”
She said the team did a good job keeping errors to a minimum  and “working together as a team” to defeat their Siskiyou County rivals.
Halliday Hubbard finished with seven aces and seven kills. Julia Deleon had 12 kills. Cleo Smith finished with nine kills and 19 assists. Cailey Rizzardo had 26 digs.
On Friday and Saturday, Etna travelled to a tournament at Fall River High School in McArthur. EHS finished in first in pool play in their bracket.

EHS tied Quincy 25-13, 25-27, and defeated fellow Siskiyou Cascade League team Trinity in two sets 25-16, and 25-8.
On Saturday in pool play, Etna downed Redding Christian 25-8, 25-21 and downed Burney 25-23, 25-19. The Lady Lions ended pool play with a 16-25, 25-22 tie versus host team Fall River.
Etna earned the top seed in the championship bracket and faced Los Molinos again, losing in two sets 29-27,21-25.
Los Molinos moved on to the title game, where they fell to Yreka in two sets.
“Overall, we did very well,”  Fournier said about how the Lady Lions fared at the Fall River tourney. “I think it was the best we played all season.”
Sadie Hogun and Halliday earned all tourney honors.
EHS is now 7-3-2- for the year.
The Etna junior varsity team took second overall in the JV division at the Fall River tournament. Etna lost in the title game to Redding Christian in three sets 25-20, 23-25, 10-15.
Kylie Daws, Mae Thackerary and Kalani Bennett earned all tourney honors for the JV Lady Lions. Etna JV is now 7-2-2 for the year.
This Week, the Lady Lions played at Anderson on Tuesday and came away with a win. On Thursday, EHS is set to play at Burney, before heading to Red Bluff on Saturday for a tournament.
