The event offers three distances for participants – 10K, 30K, and 50K. The 50K and 30K explore the trails and forest roads west of Lake Siskiyou including Rainbow Ridge (30k and 50k) and the Sisson-Callahan trail (50K only).

The 7th annual Headwaters Trail Runs are fast approaching this Saturday, Sept. 28. The trail-running event was started in 2013 by local resident Gerad Dean. Dean, an avid trial-runner who has competed in over 50 trail running races since 2005, envisioned a race that would incorporate challenging terrain and showcase the iconic scenery of the Mt. Shasta area. He named the race for the headwaters of the Sacramento River.
The event offers three distances for participants – 10K, 30K, and 50K. The 50K and 30K explore the trails and forest roads west of Lake Siskiyou including Rainbow Ridge (30k and 50k) and the Sisson-Callahan trail (50K only). The 50K and 30K are scenic and challenging courses with plenty of climbing and technical footing. The 50K has about 5,700 feet of elevation gain and 5 aid stations; the 30K has about 3,200 feet of elevation gain and 2 aid stations. The 30K and 50K aid stations will be thoroughly stocked with a variety of fresh fruit, sweet/salty/savory snacks, Hammer Gel and HEED electrolyte replacement drink, water, soda, and ice. The 10K is a rolling loop on the Lake Siskiyou trail with stunning views of Mt. Shasta and Mt. Eddy. The 10K has one aid station, offering drink only. Additional refreshments and a post-race catered meal will be provided to all runners and available for purchase to friends and family.
All participants will receive a t-shirt and finishers will receive a special finisher’s medal. Prizes from our generous sponsors will be awarded to top three female and male overall and masters (40+ year old) finishers, as well as top 3 female and male finishers in each 10-year age division.
