Mount Shasta's Alexis Ramirez and Drew Hering finished third and fourth at the West Valley Coed Invitational cross-country meet. Both Mt. Shasta and Weed fielded teams, a tough task for small schools these days.

  South Siskiyou runners turned in some strong performances on Friday, Oct. 4 in Cottonwood. Varsity boys and girls both ran a 3-mile course.
Mount Shasta’s Alexis Ramirez and Drew Hering finished third and fourth, and both Mt. Shasta and Weed fielded teams, a tough task for small schools these days.
Ramirez ranks in the top five in 3 mile and 5K times in the Northern Section, and Drew Hering is closing in on him quickly.  Ramirez notched a 16:32.3 while Hering finished in 16:39.5. Hering not only played in the Bears 8-1 soccer win over Butte Valley on Thursday, he scored one of the goals.
Cougar Ryan Mitchell finished 22nd in 18:04, the sixth sophomore in the meet with 27 schools, including valley powers like Enterprise, Chico, Shasta, and Foothill. Mt. Shasta was sixth with 151 points and Weed tenth with 266 points.. The Mt. Shasta girls were eleventh with 273 points.
Sylva Carpenter led the Bears with a 29th place finish in 22:52. She was the third freshman in the race with 90 finishers.

Dunsmuir, Weed, and Mt. Shasta compete at the Yreka Elks Invitational high school division Saturday at Greenhorn Park. Butteville Elementary, Golden Eagle Charter, and Sisson Middle School run in 4-6 grade and 7-8 grade divisions.

 Chitwood of COS  Runs a PR At Nor-Cal Preview Cross-Country

Last year’ Golden Valley Conference XC champ, Blake Chitwood of the College of the Siskiyous, showed that he’s ready to defend his title with a personal record 21:22 4-mile time last Friday at the Nor-Cal Preview meet at Toro Park in Salinas. He averaged 5:21 per mile.
