He placed first out of 532 runners from across the United States and Canada. He finished in a time of 1 hour, 25 minutes and 17 seconds, which was 6:59 minutes faster than the second place finisher. Justin averaged 6:31 minute miles.

Justin Bates, a 2001 Mount Shasta High School graduate, finished in first place at the Lake Tahoe Emerald Bay Half-Marathon last Sunday.  
He placed first out of 532 runners from across the United States and Canada. He finished in a time of 1 hour, 25 minutes and 17 seconds, which was 6:59 minutes faster than the second place finisher. Justin averaged 6:31 minute miles.
Bates currently resides in Rocklin, Calif., with his wife Jennifer and 2-year old daughter Malia. He is training for the California International Marathon, which will take place in Sacramento on Dec. 8, 
Bates qualified in 2018 to run in the 2019 Boston Marathon but did not make the trip.  In December, his goal is to run a sub-three hour marathon time and qualify for the 2021 Boston Marathon.  This time, if he qualifies, he will go to Boston.
