Weed got on the board with a Robbie Berg fumble recovery for a touchdown in the third quarter followed by a long drive ending in a 15-yard touchdown pass from Alex Guzman to Angel Nicholas.
Weed lost to Maxwell High School 54-14 at home Friday night, falling behind 38-0 in a tough first quarter before scoring a couple of third quarter touchdowns.
In the first quarter, freshman cornerback Yursire Sanders ended a Panther scoring drive with a breakup in the red zone of a third down pass by Maxwell.
Angel Nicholas boomed a 50-yard punt that was downed deep in Maxwell territory in the second quarter.
The Panthers thwarted most of Weed’s sweeps and passes to the flat with strong containment.

The Cougars had to call up the JVs to field a team and it led to occasional confusion on the field and some tough match-ups for the freshman and sophomores.
Weed will get a forfeit win this weekend as scheduled opponent Quincy won’t be able to dress a varsity team. Quincy has also forfeited contests to Fall River and Modoc in the last two weeks.
Quincy does have a JV team and they’ll play the Cougar JVs Friday night at 5:30 p.m.
The Cougars’ final two games will be with tough opponents. Fall River beat Portola 28-18 while the Cougars lost to Portola 39-12. And Biggs beat Etna 35-6. The Lions shut out Weed twice while putting up 85 points
