Mount Shasta High School’s dynamic duo of Alexis Ramirez and Drew Hering finished first and second at the Shasta Cascade League cross country championships on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at West Valley High School in Cottonwood.

South County runners swept the first three places with Ramirez finishing first in the three mile varsity run in 16:44, followed by teammate Drew Hering, second with a 17:31 time, while Cougar Ryan Mitchell was third in 18:03.
Dunsmuir freshman Izick Hernandez continued his season-long improvement, running a 20:03 for eighth place to be the first ninth grader to finish.
None of the local schools fielded a girl’s team as Mount Shasta’s top runner, Sylva Carpenter, missed the meet. The Bears’ Darian Debortoli was the first local girl to finish, coming in 16th with a 27:31 time.  South county finishers Boys three-mile
