The women start Golden Valley Conference play on Wednesday, Jan. 8 when they visit the Shasta College Knights.
The College of the Siskiyous women’s basketball team won its way into the finals of the San Jose City College Tournament before losing to Chabot College 60-48 in the championship game on Sunday.
The Lady Eagles started their run on Friday when they treated host San Jose badly with a 71-53 beatdown. Faith Tracy led the Eagles with 26 points.
They continued their strong play in the Saturday semifinal, handling Fresno City, ranked 9th in the NorCal poll, by a 76-64 score. The Eagles fell behind 20-15 after a quarter but outscored the Rams 44-22 over the next 2 quarters and coasted home. Eagle guard Anhelica Shanrock poured in 37 points. Ashley Cox and Faith Tracy both pulled down “double digit rebounds” reported assistant coach Noelle Collier.
Siskiyous couldn’t stay with a Chabot College team ranked 4th in Northern California in the title game, losing 60-48. “We missed a lot of shots,” said Eagle coach Tom Powers, though he was pleased with the team’s play at the tourney. Anhelica Shanrock led the team with 18 points. “Helly” and Faith Tracy were named to the all-tournament team.
The Lady Eagles travel to Mendocino on Saturday to play a game that replaces a contest that was cancelled when Napa Valley College ended its season due to an injury-decimated squad. The women start Golden Valley Conference play on Wednesday, Jan. 8 when they visit the Shasta College Knights.
