This week, Mount Shasta was at Modoc Tuesday, winning the contest 52-36. The Lady Bears play Trinity Friday night at 7 p.m. in the regular-season home finale.

The Mount Shasta Lady Bears played first place Fall River tough for most of the game, leading by two after three quarters, but withered under a Bulldog full-court press in the final quarter to lose 58-40 at home Friday night in Shasta Cascade League play.

Fall River is 6-0 in the SCL and gave perennial powerhouse Etna its only league loss, but the Bears came from five down at the half to take the lead after three quarters, 36-34.

Asia Hendrix returned from an ankle injury suffered a week before in a game against Weed and scored nine points in the first half to keep the game close with Fall River holding a 26-21 lead.

Mount Shasta, on the strength of seven points from Ashija Garner and six from Yuki Cannon, took a 36-34 lead into the final quarter but couldn’t handle Fall River’s full-court pressure. Numerous turnovers gave the Bulldogs extra possessions, and they outscored Mount Shasta 24-4 in quarter four despite missing 10 of 18 free throws and not hitting a three-pointer. Asia Hendrix scored 11 points for the Bears. Ashija Garner and Yuki Cannon, doing most of their work in the paint, each put up eight points. The Bears are 2-4 in the SCL and 8-13 overall.

Last Tuesday, the Lady Bears defeated Modoc at home in overtime 49-42. Last Wednesday, Mount Shasta fell to Trinity 54-43.

The Lady Bears junior varsity squad defeated Modoc in overtime at home Tuesday 45-37, MSHS downed Trinity 44-30 and lost Friday to Fall River 52-7 to drop to 10-9 overall and 3-3 in the SCL.
