The Mount Shasta Lady Bears earned a big win in the regular-season home finale on senior night last Friday 49-39 against the Trinity Lady Wolves.

“That was a good win for us,” head coach Kirk Andrus said, “We had a good game plan and we did a good job in taking shots and being aggressive.”.

Last Tuesday, the Lady Bears won on the road against Modoc 52-36. The youthful squad, which has only two seniors on the roster are playing solid hoops heading into the playoffs next week.

MSHS is 4-4 in the SCL and 10-13 overall.

As of Monday, the Lady Bears were tied for sixth in playoff points in Division 5 of the Northern Section. Trinity is third in D5 at 17-11 overall. The playoff begins next week.

Andrus believes his squad can perform well in the playoffs and are coming together as a team,

“We’re starting to reach our potential in a lot of areas,” he said. “it’s been fun to watch. “

Against the Lady Wolves in their first SCL meeting on the road on Jan.29, MSHS lost 54-43.

Friday, The Lady Bears came out fired up and played tough defense, while capitalizing on quick transition points and led at the end of all four quarters to come away with the 10-point victory.

Coach Andrus said his squad did a good job grabbing rebounds on both ends of the court with Ashija Garner pulling down 13 rebounds and Yuki Cannon finishing with 11. Cannon finished with 22 points, with many shots resulting from drives to the basket. Garner finished with eight points. Sophomore Asia Hendrix had seven points,

Andrus commended freshman Morgan Bourke for playing well at point guard and how weel she distributed the ball and did well in a vital position. She finished with six points.

The Lady Bears junior varsity team went 1-1 last week. Friday, the squad handily won against Trinity 47-23 and fell at Modoc last Tuesday by the score of 46-26. Mount Shasta is 4-4 in the SCL and 11-10 overall.
