Thanksgiving 2020: Restaurants open in Dunsmuir, Mount Shasta, Weed, McCloud

While COVID-19 is changing the way we celebrate the holidays, those who have been experimenting in the kitchen, or have been quarantined at home might want a little break from holiday preparations this year.

If the thought of cooking a turkey and sides this season seems daunting, what better way to celebrate with your family by supporting your local eateries?

These south county restaurants will be open on Thanksgiving, and will be serving up traditional and gourmet options this year. With the recent tier change from yellow to purple, indoor dining options will not be offered. Most restaurants will be offering a to-go option, where patrons can call, walk-in, or order online.

Hi-Lo Cafe

Hi-Lo Cafe in Weed will be open at 7 a.m. on Thanksgiving. Starting at 1 p.m. and ending at 7 p.m., Hi-Lo staff will be offering a Thanksgiving dinner to-go. You can get a dinner of turkey, ham, green beans & bacon, gravy & mashed potatoes, rolls, stuffing, candied yams, and homemade cranberry sauce. $17.99 for adults, call Hi-Lo for full details at (530) 938-2904. Railroad Park

Dunsmuir's Railroad Park Resort, located at 100 Railroad Park Rd., Dunsmuir, will be serving up a classic Thanksgiving dinner to-go. Reservations are recommended. Guests of Railroad Park Resort can have dinners delivered to them. Call (530) 235-4440 to reserve a meal today. Walk-ins and late orders will be accepted on Thanksgiving day.

Black Bear Diner

Black Bear Diner in Mount Shasta will be offering dinner choices of prime rib, roasted turkey, or a holiday ham dinner. These three course meals include soup or salad, cornbread muffins, and pie. There will be little less options available. Children's meals will consist of smaller portions of turkey or ham and sides. There are also family meal options available, which can feed up to 4 people featuring turkey and prime rib. All items are available for to-go/curbside pick-up. Served from Noon until 8 p.m.

Thanksgiving is Nov. 26.

Lilys

Lilys will be offering traditional Thanksgiving turkey or prime rib, with masked potatoes, green beans, pumpkin pie, sweet potato casserole and stuffing. There will also be a vegetarian option for those looking to avoid meat. Dinner will be served from 3 to 8 p.m., and reservations are recommended, walk-ins will be served if space is available. Axe & Rose

Axe & Rose Public House, will be serving from a special Thanksgiving menu from 2 to 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving day. This pre-fixed menu will include a starter, soup, salad, a choice of three main courses of orange sage roasted turkey, butternut squash ravioli or prime rib, and dessert of pumpkin pie, chocolate hazelnut torte, or apple pie. Adults can eat for $44, children under 12, $24. Does not include gratuity. Closed: Mount Shasta Resort's Highland House

Update: After Siskiyou County was placed in the widespread purple tier, the Mount Shasta Resourt decided to close its Highland House restaurant and will not do to go orders.

The Highland House, located in the Mount Shasta Resort, will be offering Thanksgiving dinner specials including a turkey, prime rib, stuffed sole, chicken kiev, or stuffed zucchini options for the main course. Each dinner will include mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, yams, homemade rolls, salad, stuffing and cranberry sauce. There will also be a combination dinner option. The combination dinner includes 6 ounces of turkey and 8 ounces of prime rib as well as sides for $37.99. Oven roasted turkey dinner will be 26.99; prime rib dinner will be $29.99. The stuffed sole, which is fish stuffed with lobster, crab and shrimp, and is finished with a hollandaise sauce, will be $30.99. Chicken kiev, which is a garlic stuffed fried chicken, will be 27.99, and stuffed zucchini will be $22.99. Reservations are recommended, as the restaurant is serving half capacity. The Tree House

The Tree House Restaurant, located in the Best Western Plus Tree House in Mount Shasta, will be offering a limited to-go menu on Thanksgiving.They will be serving a classic, three course Thanksgiving dinner of either Turkey, a combo of turkey and ham, or just ham with sides between 2 and 9 p.m. To-go orders and encouraged due to state orders. Contact them at (530) 926-3101. It is recommended to place orders by 5 p.m. today, Nov. 25 for large groups. Walk-ins will be accepted for to-go orders on Nov. 26. Turkey dinners and turkey and ham combination dinners are $25 for one, $80 for four; ham dinners are $20 for one, $70 for four.

Locations open regular hours

Penny's Diner, located at 4000 Siskiyou Ave, Dunsmuir, will be open regular hours on Thanksgiving, serving regular menu items.

Cafe Maddalena will be closed on Thanksgiving, but will be open Friday through Sunday for dine in and to-go options. (530) 235-2725.
