Grammy winner a Music Festival hit

Laurie Lewis, above, performed for an appreciative audience at the Mount Shasta Resort Sunday.

Grammy award winning bluegrass and Americana legend Laurie Lewis seemed to be right at home during her performance at the Mt. Shasta Resort Sunday, Aug. 17.

The penultimate act in this year’s Mt. Shasta Music Festival Summer Concert Series, Lewis and her two string-playing band members sang songs about the mountains, forests, rivers, the wind, and cabins in the woods.

She told the audience of her upcoming plans to spend time on both the Tuolumne and Rogue Rivers and even noted that one of the trips had an opening for two people if anyone was interested.

Twice named Female Vocalist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association, Lewis switched between acoustic guitar and fiddle while playing songs such as Val’s Cabin, Wild Rose of the Mountain, Devil Chased Me Around the Stump, and I’m Gonna Be the Wind.

Put on by Positive Productions of Mount Shasta and presented by Northland Cable Television and Charter Communications, the final Mount Shasta Summer Music Festival concert series is scheduled to conclude this coming Sunday, Aug. 24, with world beat favorites Samba Da.

Gates at the Resort open at 3:30 p.m. and the show starts at 4:30 p.m.

Tickets are available at the Mount Shasta Resort; Bog Bean Books and Music in Redding; and by phoning (530) 918-4804.

General admission seating and dance space will be provided on the lawn. Bring a blanket or chairs if you wish — no coolers allowed. Car pooling is encouraged.
