Peter Edridge, an author living in Igo in Shasta County, will be signing copies of his recently released book “Burning Bears Fall from the Sky”?on June 5 at Village Books in Mount Shasta from 1 to 3 p.m.

Born in the East End of London, Edridge finished university in England and immigrated to the United States. “After too many false starts he began a career in computing and lucrative as that was, fortunately, it wasn’t all,” according to a press release. He currently lives with his wife, two dogs, and several cats on a mountainside in what he describes as “the quaint hamlet of Igo.”

“Burning Bears Fall From the Sky” is described as “a book about a couple who are forced, by an economic downturn, to leave their affluent urbanite life in the Bay Area and move to a derelict shack on a mountainside in Northern California. Initially overwhelmed, they learn how to build a house, fix old cars, drill for water, fix water pumps, clear land, bulldozers, burn piles, horses, scary steep driveways, chainsaws, rattlesnakes, vermin, gun-toting neighbors, baby deer, good folks and bad folks, bears and lions, wilderness, fires, wildfires, mountain life, summer heat and winter freezes.

“The couple finally finds redemption not just with themselves, but also the rural community of Igo, its surprising assortment of people and its very different culture. This is an adventure story, but most of all it’s a celebration of life.”

The book is available locally at Village Books and Language Quest in Mount Shasta, as well as on Amazon.
