Less than a week after the Django Unchained promotional figurines were discontinued, they became a hot commodity on eBay - so much so that the online auction company decided to ban the sale of them on their website, TMZ.com reports.

Last week, after advocacy groups called for a boycott of the dolls based on the film's characters, the Weinstein Company reached out to the toy company to discontinue the product. Only roughly 1,000 dolls had been released before the company shut down production.

Now a rare item, the dolls began popping up on eBay. But on Wednesday, eBay decided to pull the listings down, sending an e-mail to the sellers that explained, "Since the manufacturer of this product has discontinued the item's sale due to its potentially offensive nature, we are not allowing it to be sold on eBay."

"These [toys] were removed as they were in violation of our Offensive Materials policy," a rep for the website added.
