Today's News: Our Take - Survivor: Who Was Voted Off?
On Survivor this week, The Three Amigos (Malcolm, Reynold and Eddie) were looking to bring someone over to their alliance after Malcolm's power play last week resulted in Phillip packing his bags. Did they succeed, or did the remaining Stealth R Us members stick together even without Phillip?
With the food supply quickly running out (leaving Brenda in tears), a food auction arrived just in time. Malcolm promptly spent $20 on beer and later used the rest of his allotted $500 to purchase a clue about the hidden immunity idol. (Although, given his past luck, there's a good chance he would have found it on his own.) Reynold paid $180 for a covered item that turned out to be a slice of pizza, and Sherri and Dawn threw their proverbial checkbooks at host Jeff Probst to get hold of pizza and chicken. Andrea spent more than half her funds on pasta and wine, but eventually was forced to return it to procure rice and beans for the tribe. Cochran spent $340 on an advantage at the next immunity challenge. Brenda, perhaps delirious from hunger and panic, spent $300 on pig's brain before remembering she doesn't eat pork.
While the contestants were chowing down, Probst sneakily revealed a twist of sorts: He had letters from the contestants' loved ones back home, but only for a price ($20, to be exact). Of course, that was an immediate "too bad" sign for Dawn, Sherri and Malcolm, who had already spent all of their cash. The only ones feeling worse than that trio? Some of the people who did get to read their letters, including a surprisingly emotional Cochran. Nice psychological head game, Probst.
The Amigos then proceed to recruit Sherri over to their alliance, and decide that they'll be aiming to vote Cochran out since he's the smartest player regarding the idol. Malcolm also uses the down time to try to find the immunity idol (again). But in his shadow was Andrea, who tailed along "like a little sister I can't get rid of," according to Malcolm.
At the immunity challenge, Cochran proved that his $340 was money well-spent, winning a weight-holding contest handily after the advantage allowed him to reposition his hands to lighten the load. His victory speech? "I am the greatest challenge competitor in Survivor: Caramoan. There is no debate." Well ... there might be a little debate, Cochran. But we digress.
So with their plan falling apart before their eyes, Malcolm, Reynold and Erik decide to pretend one of them has the idol in the hopes of recruiting either Sherri or Erik onto their side. At Tribal Council, the Amigos shifted their votes from Cochran to Andrea, but the remaining Stealth R Us members split their votes between Malcolm and Reynold, creating a three-way tie.
On the re-vote, knowing that The Amigos were idol-less, the majority alliance voted Malcolm out, getting their revenge on Malcolm after last week's shenanigans. And judging from the look on Cochran's face, it was indeed as "indescribably delicious" as he predicted it would be. "I need a drink!" an exasperated Malcolm shouted after Probst covered his torch.
What did you think? Were you surprised to see Malcolm go? And what would you spend your $500 on at the auction?
