American Idol was the top-rated show Wednesday, but it couldn't take down The Voice head-to-head.
A special episode of The Voice drew 8.7 million viewers and a 2.7 in the adults 18-to-49 demographic, edging out the first hour of Idol by two-tenths. Idol averaged 10.8 million viewers and a 2.8 for both hours, down a tenth from last week.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (7 million, 1.9) and Chicago Fire (6.9 million, 1.8) enjoyed Voice boosts, with the former rising four-tenths and the latter one-tenth.
CBS' whole lineup improved as well, but ABC's entire block was down.
On The CW, Arrow (2.6 million, 0.9) and Supernatural (2.1 million, 0.9) held steady.
