Today's News: Our Take - The Tuesday Playlist: New Girl, Other Finales as a New Dance Begins
Famous last words: "Nothing can go wrong," says Jess on Cece's lavish wedding day - not accounting for the runaway horse, the badger on the loose, and the inappropriate soundtrack that factors into the buds plotting a "sabo" (Schmidt-speak for "sabotage") in a pivotal and blissfully funny second-season finale of Fox's New Girl (Tuesday, 9/8c). Schmidt has brought Elizabeth (Nurse Jackie's delightful Merritt Wever) as a date while having "eye conversations" with the conflicted bride, and with Jess's disapproving dad (Rob Reiner) amplifying the insecurities underlying his daughter's romance with Nick, there's plenty of relationship drama amid the raucous comedy. And while Fox hasn't made a secret of the celebrity cameo amid the wedding crowd, it makes for a fun twist and even better joke, a grace note for an episode that will leave fans happily awaiting next season. ... On the finale of its companion piece The Mindy Project (9:30/8:30c), Mindy plans to accompany Casey to Haiti on a volunteer mission, prompting a farewell party by Danny and his ex-wife. Not to worry; she and the show will be back for a second season in the fall.

FINALE FEVER: The most-watched signoff of the night will undoubtedly be CBS's NCIS (8/7c), wrapping its 10th season with Gibbs & Co. targets of a federal witch hunt. Guest stars include JAG regular John M. Jackson as Rear Admiral Chegwidden and Muse Watson as the gone but clearly not forgotten Mike Franks. ... CBS's NCIS: LA (9/8c) closes out Season 4 with Hetty rearranging the partnerships during a search for stolen nuke weapons, pairing Callen with Kensi on an overseas assignment while teaming Deeks with Sam, who goes undercover with his wife. ... The first-season finale is also the end of the road for CBS's Golden Boy (10/9c), with Clark on desk duty looking into a cold case that was partner Owen's first homicide assignment, while Owen earns a promotion - Owen of course having been played by the terrific Chi McBride, who is overdue a longer-running series.
DANCE FEVER: Is it summer already? Most years, Fox waits until after the American Idol finale to launch the network's best competition series, So You Think You Can Dance. To mark its 10th season, Fox jumps the gun by a few days, so let the auditions, and Mary Murphy's screeching, begin (8/7c). ... Celebrating its own milestone, ABC's Dancing With the Stars marks its 300th episode (9/8c) with an opening number choreographed by Jason Gilkison (a SYTYCD veteran) featuring 22 pro and returning favorites. Performances by The Wanted and Avril Levigne only delay the inevitable elimination, as another contestant hangs up their dancing shoes. ... In other reality news, NBC's The Voice (9/8c) sends home the first two finalists - but from which teams? - in a live elimination. ... CNBC premieres the competition series Crowd Rules (9/8c), in which three small businesses vie for the favor of a studio audience, who will decide which is worthy of a $50,000 prize.
