Today's News: Our Take - The Walking Dead: Can The Governor Be a Good Guy?
[Warning: This story contains major spoilers from Sunday's episode of The Walking Dead. Read at your own risk.]
After being attacked by zombies while on the road, The Governor - now going under the name Brian - reunited with former lackey Martinez (Jose Pablo Cantillo), who is now the leader of a nearby community. When Martinez expresses his want to share the crown with The Governor, Brian doesn't want it so he knocks Martinez over the head with a golf club and dumps him into a zombie pit.
Under new leadership, Pete (Enver Gjokaj) decides he doesn't want to attack a nearby group to steal their supplies, which ultimately doesn't matter since another mysterious group does it first. Brian decides to grab the girls and leave the camp, but they don't get far before they're forced to return. Instead, Brian kills weakling Pete and threatens his reckless brother Mitch (Kirk Acevedo), saying that he's now going to take over the community and will do everything to protect them.
Knowing that their camp isn't very safe, The Governor sets out to see the status of the prison, bringing us full circle. But he certainly doesn't come in peace. When he spots Michonne (Danai Guirira), he levels his gun, preparing to take the life of the woman who took his eye.
The Governor's return, although welcome in a season that's moved much slower than Season 3's crazy fast pace, basically puts the group in the exact same position as last year: In a weakened state with a maniacal leader knocking at its door - which makes these episodes on whether The Governor could be a good guy feel like filler. We're right back where we started, likely with more death on the way. The big difference this time is there's no way The Governor can survive or The Walking Dead really will be repeating itself.
What did you think of The Governor's return to the prison?
The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9/8c on AMC.
