Bret Easton Ellis and Rob Zombie Developing Charles Manson Project for Fox
The project, currently envisioned as a limited series, would focus on the events connected to the Manson Family murders, in which Charles Manson convinced his cult followers to go on a killing spree in 1969 in Los Angeles. The events left seven dead, including Sharon Tate, who was eight and a half months pregnant with Roman Polanski's child.
Though Manson was never found to have committed a murder himself, he was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy. Manson was sentenced to death in 1971, but this was later changed to life in prison. He has been denied parole 12 times to date.
Zombie approached Ellis with the project, which will provide an original take on the gruesome murders and be told through multiple perspectives.
"I have been obsessed with this insane story since I was a kid, so obviously I jumped at the chance to be involved in this incredible project. After speaking with Bret, I immediately realized that we shared the same vision for this epic madness," Zombie said.
Ellis and Zombie will executive-produce with Sharon Hall, Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson. Ben Roberts and Ryan Cunningham will co-produce.
