5 Things to Do This Weekend (July 18-20)

Here are five ways to have fun this weekend.

1. The big movies opening this week are “Sex Tape,” an R comedy starring Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz that is decidedly a family-unfriendly film (unless everyone is grown up); “The Purge: Anarchy,” an R horror movie sequel; and “Planes: Fire & Rescue,” an animated PG film in the “Cars” franchise.

2. Sunday is Space Exploration Day and also Moon Day because July 20, 1969, was when Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin set foot on the moon. Check the newspaper or call around to see if your library or any museums are having any events. Or you can camp out in the backyard this night and look at the moon. A telescope is ideal, but even binoculars can give you a new, close-up view.

3. Saturday is National Hot Dog Day. Yum! Invite some friends over and cook some hot dogs on the grill to celebrate this fun food.

4. Speaking of food, Sunday is National Ice Cream Day, an absolutely wonderful day. Go out for ice cream, make some sundaes at home, hold a who-has-the-best-toppings party or do something else that celebrates this tasty treat.

5. As far as sports, this weekend we have Major League Baseball, NASCAR and Major League Soccer, so you’ll have plenty to watch on TV. Check the newspaper for schedules.
