5 Things to Do This Weekend (Sept. 5-7)

Five ways you can have fun this weekend:

1. The big movies opening this week are “The Identical,” a PG movie kind of based on Elvis Presley’s life that stars Blake Rayne, Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd and Seth Green; and an IMAX re-release of the wonderful “Forrest Gump,” which is now 20 years old. What?!

2. Sunday is Grandparents Day, a day to celebrate the grandparents in your life. If they live nearby, go for a visit and spend some quality time with them. If they’re far away, make a special card for them and plan a special Skype call on Sunday.

3. This weekend wraps up National Waffle Week. If you haven’t eaten any waffles this week, what are you waiting for? Make some at home and/or go out for some, just make sure to celebrate this wonderful food.

4. Patriot Day, aka 9/11, is next week, but you can get ready to honor our country by making some patriotic-themed crafts this weekend. You can make flags to hang outside or whatever you can think up. Google “patriotic crafts” if you need some ideas.

5. There are a lot of good sports games this weekend, so get out those TV listings and start planning. There is college football, NFL, MLB, soccer, NASCAR, the basketball world cup and more.
