How to be an extra in a movie filmed in Redding, Anderson in May

People residing in or visiting the Redding area in early May are invited to apply to be unpaid extras in a comedy film.
“We’ve got a couple of big scenes coming up and I need a lot of extras,” said Michael Flanagan, co-producer of the movie “Miracle Mile”, an independent movie about friends and family on a road trip.
The movie stars North State actors Don Potter, Luke Van Mol and Tyler Pochop, he said.
The film is about a teenager from Idaho who falls in love with a Redding girl, Flanagan said. The youth makes his way to the North State with his grandfather in a beat-up ice cream truck, chauffeured by a war veteran.
Filming includes indoor and outdoor scenes with as many as 250 volunteer extras needed per scene, said Flanagan, who lives in Redding. “We need all ages,” he said.
A crew from movie production company Mighty Men of Valor will shoot scenes with extras on the following dates, according to Flanagan:
- 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, May 1 in a park in Redding. Volunteers attend a concert and dance.
- 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 6 at a church in Redding. Volunteer extras will sit and listen to a singer.
- 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 8 will be a pub scene in Redding. Extras slow dance and sit at tables.
- 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9 in Anderson. Children are needed to surround an ice cream truck.
Those interested should email their name and phone number with headshots — close-up portraits of their face — and the date they’re available to be an extra to mmov.film@gmail.com. Put the word “extra” in the subject line. People can only volunteer for one scene and day, Flanagan said.
Those selected will receive further instructions, according to Flanagan, who said he loves shooting films in Shasta County.
“My last Redding shoot with Donny Osmond was a closed set,” he said.
This time, Flanagan said, he’s excited he gets to open the sets to people of the North State.
Redding is “my hometown," he said. "I love sharing our community with the world."
