Railroad Days rolls into Dunsmuir this weekend with a new location for live music, an ice cream sundae booth, three different soap box derby events, a Show ’N Shine, and the first awarding of a new Railroad Days scholarship.

Vendors booths will open on Pine Street at 6 p.m. Friday, at the same time that a Battle of the Bands begins on what’s being called the Main Stage, located in the parking lot between City Hall and La Perla de Nayarit Mexican Restaurant across from Cedar Street.

The annual River Run is scheduled for Saturday at 8 a.m. at the same time that the Rotary Pancake Breakfast begins at Dunsmuir Hotel and an 11-team softball tournament begins at the historic city ball park.

The Eagles Club will be doing a beer garden throughout the weekend adjacent to the Main Stage, where live music will run from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3:30 Sunday.

Saturday’s events include the Little Engineer Contest and other children’s activities, a book and bake sale at the library, and downtown parade at noon, and a youth soapbox derby from 1 to 3 p.m.

Dunsmuir Museum will be open starting at 10 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

An adult soapbox derby is scheduled from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday in north Dunsmuir, and a downtown adult derby that organizer Big Dave Keisler is calling the Tour de Dunsmuir, starts at 11:30 on Sunday.

The Show ’N Shine is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot on the south side of City Hall, across from US Bank, where the Jaywalkers ’50s Band will play live music.

“We want people to come and have fun,” said Railroad Days chairperson Sandra Hood. “Check out the museum, enjoy the new spot for music, drink responsibly, buy some food.”

The ice cream sundae booth, one of about 15 vendor booths on Pine Street, will be raising funds to support Railroad Days.
