The Siskiyou Arts Museum in Dunsmuir will feature the art of former Siskiyou County resident Victor Aaron Medrano, MD, in an opening reception on Saturday, March 10 from 5 to 7 p.m.

After retiring from a busy medical practice in 1997, Victor and his wife Carol moved to Gazelle. Victor and Carol loved to hike, cook, read, entertain friends, and he returned to his passion, which was painting. Victor painted in a lovely studio on their property and had a showing of his art at the Weed Library a few years ago.

Victor and Carol also loved classical music and were tireless volunteers with Music by the Mountain, a Siskiyou County based music education organization committed to bringing extraordinary classical musicians to our community and providing educational outreach for children and students of all ages. Victor was often the cheerful “bartender” at MbM events, and Carol served on the board of directors.

In honor of Carol’s life, Music By the Mountain began sponsoring a yearly scholarship to benefit Siskiyou County high school graduates who plan to major in music, and College of the Siskiyous music majors. (Go to to learn more).

Victoria Medrano, Victor’s daughter, has designated 50% of the sales from her father’s artwork to be donated to the Carol Medrano Memorial Scholarship Fund. Scholarship applications and donation forms will also be available. Musician Tom Scott will play live during the opening reception, and the exhibition continues in SAM’s small gallery through May 5.

The Siskiyou Arts Museum is located in downtown Dunsmuir. Its regular hours of operation are Thursday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, go to or or call 530-235-4711.
