A “Mount Shasta Wildflowers” book signing is scheduled for Dec. 5 at Village Books in downtown Mount Shasta, featuring authors Linda Freeman, Ken Goerhing, Michael Zanger and Jane Cohn.

Local authors Linda Freeman, Ken Goehring, Michael Zanger, and Jane Cohn will be available to visit with people and sign copies of a new field guide at Village Books in Mount Shasta Saturday, Dec. 5 from 1 to 4 p.m.

“Mount Shasta Wildflowers: A Field Guide Featuring the Paintings of Edward Stuhl” combines local art, history and botanical information in an easy to use field guide to the flowers that grow on Mount Shasta.

Along with each painting, the flowering plant is described and listed by the current official name, common name, modern family, and trail locations.

The guide reprints the original watercolor paintings of Edward Stuhl with up-to-date botanical information, an illustrated glossary, keys and charts, and an index by color.

A brief biography describes the life of Edward Stuhl, who spent almost 50 years exploring, painting, and studying local plant life.

The book includes a map of the area and descriptions and directions to trails along with lists of flowers often seen on each trail.

For more information about the book, visit mountshastawildflowers.com or on Facebook at Mount Shasta Wildflowers.

Paintings in the book are published with permission from the Meriam Library at CSU, Chico, where Stuhl's paintings and journals are housed. To view the entire digital collection at the Meriam Library, visit archives.csuchico.edu. The book was published locally by Wise Women Ink.

Two other events for the book are scheduled: Dec. 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. during JEDI’s Open House and 5th Annual Holiday Bazaar; and Dec. 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. during an art opening at The Gallery (in the Black Bear Building in downtown Mount Shasta).
