Mt. Shasta Nordic’s 4th annual Wine Gala includes a new twist – a silent auction that is being called an “experience auction.”

Scheduled for Saturday, March 29, from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Gallery in downtown Mount Shasta, event co-coordinator Lynda Hardy said, “This new silent auction format serves to build our community by sharing unique experiences.”

While the Gala is again designed to be “an elegant evening of premium wine, exceptional food, art, and community spirit,” Hardy said, “We decided not to ask local businesses to donate because of the stress many are feeling this year from the lack of snow that normally brings more people to town.”

Instead, the majority of items to be auctioned will be experiences donated by the members of the community.

Wineries will be pouring and explaining their wines. Appetizers and desserts crafted by locals will be available to accompany the wine.

The Gallery will surround participants with art, especially upstairs, where landscapes in oil and pastels painted by Willo Balfrey are on display.

Tickets are being sold for $20 at The Fifth Season and at the door. Details can be found by visiting www.mtshastanordic.org. For more information, contact co-coordinator Jennifer Knight at 530-926-4093.

Experiences to be auctioned include:

A dinner prepared by gourmet cook Mark Derby or vegetation removal effective in lessening fire danger offered by Stan Miller and Tim Loughlin.

A consultation with garden expert Karen Aldous and knitting lessons offered by Susan Brown.

JJ Jackson, RN, will provide medical counseling, Neil Posson and Jennifer Knight will bake chocolate desserts, Dale Stanley will cut oak into a half cord, Jim Hardy will offer a sailboat trip, and Buzz Knight an evening patio boat cruise.

Pet consultation with Raven Stevens, children’s party entertainment with Bayla Greenspoon, a deluxe facial by Jerilyn Aesthetics, Mt. Shasta area archaeologist tour with Julie Cassidy, kayak lessons with Devin Knight, and a “nature in spring” hike with Rebeca Franco.

More silent auction items are expected to be added.
