From Dominican cuisine to decadent desserts: Here are 24 new restaurants in metro Phoenix

Restaurateurs across metro Phoenix rang in the new year with grand openings and diners can now enjoy an exciting lineup of new eateries, from fast-casual sandwich shops to upscale wine bars and everything in between.

Taco lovers have no shortage of new bites to try, from DEZ Burrito Company to Tacos Chilango to Tatemados. Or if you're in the mood for something sweet, check out Decadent Macaron, Mochinut or Great American Cookies.

The West Valley in particular saw some exciting new openings this month, like Then Burger in Glendale, Hash Kitchen in Peoria and Quench Taps & Tapas in Surprise.

Here are 24 new restaurants that are now open in metro Phoenix.

Casa de Mambo

Casa de Mambo, a brand-new restaurant serving Dominican cuisine, is now open in Mesa. Menu items include mofongo de pollo, fried plantains with fried chicken, and roasted pork shoulder.

The Craftsman Cocktails & Kitchen

The Craftsman, which opened its first location in Scottsdale in October 2020, has expanded to a second location in Tempe. Menu options include fish and chips, a wagyu pastrami sandwich, charcuterie and cheese board and fritters. The Craftsman also offers a selection of specialty cocktails, draft beers and wine by the glass or bottle.

Barro's Pizza

A new location of the pizza chain is now open in Chandler.

BJ's Brewhouse

A seventh Arizona location of the microbrewery opened in Goodyear, serving beer, burgers, steak and dessert pizookies (pizza cookies).

Cartel Roasting Co. recently debuted a full rebrand that touts a fresh look to go with an expanded lineup of canned coffee drinks that include new ready-to-drink offerings like Sonoran Sun, which is specially blended, cold-steeped for 22-hours and feature hand-drawn illustrations from a local artist on the packaging.

Tempe-born coffee shop Cartel Roasting Co. just opened its 9th Valley location at Desert Ridge Marketplace in Phoenix. The store sells espresso and filter coffee, tea and foods including a poblano and potato burrito, confetti donut and chia pudding.

This locally owned French dessert shop is moving. The original Chandler location closed in January, but a new location opened in Gilbert. The extensive menu offers over four dozen macaron flavors, most of which are gluten-free.

DEZ Burrito Company

Valley food truck fans were crushed when DEZ Burrito Company announced the closing of its food truck last August. But now, the restaurant has reopened as a brick-and-mortar in Chandler. The new location serves its fan-favorite burritos, nachos and quesadillas.

Eden at Kimpton Hotel Palomar

The Kimpton Hotel Palomar in downtown Phoenix unveiled a brand-new rooftop bar in January called Eden. Try one of the signature cocktails like the Garden of Eden made with serrano and cilantro-infused tequila, lime juice, agave nectar and Italicus. The food menu features Mediterranean-inspired share plates and tapas.

Knockout Cafe

Knockout Cafe is a new restaurant that sells sandwiches and Thai cuisine like curry and ramen. The owners formerly opened Thai Time Kitchen in Mesa.

Federal American Grill

Houston-based restaurant Federal American Grill opened its first Arizona location in Scottsdale. Menu items include fried cheeseburger egg rolls, truffle stuffed chicken, a half-baked chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla ice cream and the namesake Federal Burger.

Great American Cookies

Los Angeles-based cookie chain Great American Cookies made its Arizona debut in January at Tanger Outlets in Glendale. Pick up a custom cookie cake or warm brownie to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Choose your own tomato sauce, vodka, toppings and size at the Hash Kitchen bloody mary bar.

Hash Kitchen

The brunch restaurant known for its build-your-own bloody Mary bar opened a new location at P83 in Peoria.

Mici is a fast casual chain of Italian restaurants based out of Denver.


A second Valley location of Mici opened in January in Queen Creek. The fast-casual restaurant serves pizza and pasta.

Mochinut has continued its Arizona expansion with a third location, this one located inside 99 Ranch Market in Chandler. Mochinut serves mochi donuts and Korean rice flour hot dogs.

The Big Jake sandwich topped with turkey breast, cream cheese, avocado and "the works." Make it a combo meal with a side of chips and a drink.

Mr. Pickle's

Mr. Pickle's sandwich shop opened its first location in Arizona in January, with more planned to open throughout the year. The Mr. Pickle sandwiches are known for their crackle-crust bread. The house sandwich consists of chicken breast, bacon, Monterey jack, avocado and "the works" veggies. Other sandwich options include the Listen Linda made with turkey breast, avocado, bacon, swiss cheese and garlic sauce and the Big Jake turkey sandwich with cream cheese and avocado.

New Penny Cafe

New Penny Cafe is a woman-owned business selling smoothie bowls, breakfast sandwiches and "fairy toast." Drink options include coffee, tea, beer and morning cocktails.

The Penne Rosa from Noodles & Company is pasta topped with mushrooms, tomato and spinach in a spicy tomato cream sauce.

Noodles & Company opened a new location in Scottsdale, serving tortelloni, zoodles and plenty of other pasta dish options.

Pop Pot & Tea

Pop Pot & Tea opened in Chandler in the space formerly occupied by China Magic Noodle House, which closed last summer. The restaurant sells Taiwanese hot pot dishes and rice bowls. Wash it down with a milk tea or fruit tea.

A new beer and wine bar opened in Surprise. In addition to the drinks, Quench Taps & Tapas offers charcuterie boards, chicken and steak skewers and flatbreads.

California-based chain The Sandwich Spot opened its first Arizona location in north Phoenix. The location-specific menu includes a number of signature Arizona-themed sandwiches such as The Grand Canyon, Piestewa Peak, The Cardinal and The Camelback made with hot salami, bomb sauce and pepper jack cheese.

SunSet Wine Bistro

Romain Lauro, former owner of Salut Kitchen Bar, opened a new wine bar in Scottsdale. In addition to the wines, SunSet offers a menu of bruschetta, steak and pasta.

Tacos Chilango

A second location of Tacos Chilango is now open in Buckeye. The Mexico City-style taqueria serves queso tacos, quesadillas, tacos al carbon and burritos.

Tatemados is known for its charcoal-roasted meat and bacon-wrapped burrito. Other menu items include the burro lengua, carne asada and chicharrónes tacos.

Then Burger

A new speakeasy-style burger joint opened in Glendale. The menu is short and simple, with a dozen burger options including the Maple Bourbon BBQ Bleu and the Marrow and Mushroom. More extensive is the drinks menu, which includes mules, cocktails, meads, draft, bottle and can beers.
