• Vacation Bible School -- VBS at the Mount Shasta United Methodist Church continues this week, today Thursday and Friday. July 25-27

Lumberjack Fiesta -- McCloud Recreation Council will sponsor McCloud’s 61st annual Lumberjack Fiesta scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 25, 26 and 27.

Includes Little Logger and Little Miss fiesta Contest, three-day softball tournament, parade, vendor booths, food and drink booths, horseshoe tournament, logging competitions featuring axe throwing, sawing and choker setting, live music, fun and games for kids, and more.

Swim with the fish -- A River Exchange outing on the Upper Sacramento River from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants will gear up with mask and snorkel and swim a gentle stretch of the river near Hazel Creek. Mt. Shasta Hillclimb -- The Mt. Shasta Pedali Bicycle Club’s annual fun ride/race from downtown Mount Shasta, up Everitt Memorial Highway to the old Ski Bowl parking lot — 14 miles, 4,100 vertical feet of climb. Open to all bicycle riders, male/female, junior to seniors.

Aug. 3

• Summit Century -- Mount Shasta’s annual bike event. Four different routes to choose — from a 135 mile Super Century to a 30 mile Half Metric. Fully supported ride plus a post-ride dinner. Aug. 6-10

Fair -- The Siskiyou Golden Fair “Mountain Fair With Country Flair” takes place Wednesday through Sunday, Aug. 6-10 at the fairgrounds in Yreka. Parking is free.

The fair opens at 5 p.m. on Wednesday for Nestle Community Night, admission is free for everyone.

Thursday is McDonald’s Kids Day, all children age 12 and under are admitted free; and  features the Clay Walker and Steve Holy concert.

Friday is Senior Day, all fair patrons age 62 and over are admitted free; and features Xtremly Amped! motorcycle show.

Saturday features the pro rodeo. Sunday features the Destruction Derby.

Fair admission for adults is $6.  Presale admission tickets (five adult tickets) are $20. Presale carnival wristbands are $15, good to ride all rides all day and night on any one day of the fair.

Aug. 12 and 13

• Safe driving course --  A 2-day AARP Safe Driving Course for drivers age 50 and over is set for Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 12 and 13 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Mount Shasta Elks Lodge, 326 N. Mt. Shasta Blvd., Mount Shasta. A classroom style setting with instruction presented through a video and work-along manual. There is no test.

Attendance is required both days to receive completion certificate. Cost is $10 each to cover cost of materials. Class size is limited. Instructor is Walt Pike. It is not necessary to be an AARP member to attend this class. To register: 926-5262.

The Siskiyou Lady Riders --  motorcycle group will hold their monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. in Yreka at the Purple Plum. The group encourages all lady motorcyclists to join their meetings.
