Karen Lovely and her band from Oregon will open the annual Scott Valley Bank Summer Concerts in the Parks series Friday, June 14, at Lake Shastina's Hoy Park.

The free Siskiyou Arts Council supported concert is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Lawn seating only.

Now in its 18th season, the series brings free, family-oriented concerts to venues in Siskiyou County. Most of this summer's concerts will again be held at Yreka's Miner Street Park.

"Lovely's velvet voice with an edge, and her dynamic delivery of poignantly humorous lyrics of blues favorites will transport you," according to a Series press release. "You'll see why she shot onto the blues scene, capturing the second place band prize at the 2010 International Blues Challenge followed by 2011 Blues Music Awards nominations for Best Contemporary Blues Album and Best Contemporary Blues Female Artist."

The title track of Lovely's release, "Still the Rain," received a 2011 BMA nomination for Best Song.

She and her band perform a mix of contemporary and classic blues, R&B and Memphis soul. See for more.

Concert sponsors include Lake Shastina Community Services District & Home Owners' Association, Lake Shastina Public Works, Meyer Irrigation Specialist, and Mercy Lake Shastina Community Clinic; Fairchild Medical Center; Siskiyou Development/HiLo Motel, and media sponsors KSYC & KSIZ radio, Siskiyou Daily News and After Five Magazine.
