Weed Christmas parade and tree lighting

Santa and Mrs. Claus ride down Main Street in the Weed Christmas parade.

At three minutes to 5 p.m. Saturday evening, Main Street in Weed was still mostly vacant. Except for the police cars and road blocks, no one would guess a parade was about to start. A cold wind was blowing, and the few folks hanging around huddled in store doorways.

But as soon as the Weed Fire Department turned on their sirens, families, children, sweethearts, and friends began to gather along the parade route. Dozens of people arrived to enjoy the parade despite the wind and cold.

Some of the entries were the Weed Fire Department trucks, the US Bank with the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who on a jet ski, JB Automotive, Dawson Wreath Barn, McDonald’s, Butteville Fine Arts band, College of the Siskiyous with its Eagle mascot and Santa, Tattoos by Doc, STAGE, and the Long Bell fire truck.

Kids were delighted to see Santa himself along with Mrs. Claus.

The parade ended at the Abner Weed Plaza. Cookies and hot drinks were served, Santa listened to children’s Christmas lists, and the large tree by the court house was lit.
