Ryan Marchand is scheduled to close the outdoor portion of Saturday's WeedFest Music & Art Festival, starting his set at 7 p.m. at Heritage Plaza in downtown Weed.

Eleven bands will be performing in downtown Weed on Saturday, June 4, and the 3rd annual WeedFest Music & Art Festival will feature arts and crafts booths and food vendors.

Weed’s Main Street will be closed off from Inez to Division Streets from noon to 9 p.m. for the benefit event that will raise funds for a new mobile stage that the City of Weed plans to debut at Heritage Plaza during this summer’s Weed Carnevale celebration.

The Olés from Isla Vista in Santa Barbara will headline the event, taking the stage at the Palace Theater at 7 p.m. Their music was described by The Indie Blender as “a beautiful melding of reggae and hip hop, with bits of ska, folk, and classic rock influences thrown in.”

Food and beverages will include Indian fry-bread tacos, barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs from the Weed Fire Department, pulled pork, snow cones, a beer wagon and garden, and Northbound Coffee Roasters.

An official “Pre-Party” is scheduled for Friday evening, June 3 at the Palace Theater on Main Street with Strings Broken Band and Liquid Light Productions.

This year’s WeedFest poster features the Weed arch, Mt. Shasta, stars and robots inspired by the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still.

WeedFest is sponsored by the Palace Theater, PACE Engineering, Weed Pride and Weed Chamber of Commerce. Volunteers, vendors, donors and sponsors are encouraged to participate. Call 530-471-3423 or visit the website: WeedFest2016.com.

Organizers include members of Weed Pride and other community members including  Margaret Dean, Jim Striegel, Jim Taylor, Ken Palfini, Michele Goldsmith and Bob Hall.

The is gearing up to be a full day of “family fun-in-the-sun,” according to the group.

A suggested donation of $10 is requested for both Friday and Saturday events.

Saturday’s festivities include six musical acts outside on Main Street at Heritage Plaza, while five bands will play inside the Weed Palace Theater.
