Summer Concerts in the Parks concert-goers dance to hits from the 1940s to today played by Chico-based cover band Decades during the band's 2016 concert. The group was such a big hit last year that Scott Valley Bank invited them back to close out the 2017 season on Friday, July 28 in Yreka's Miner Street Park. Submitted

Scott Valley Bank’s 22nd Summer Concerts in the Parks Series will again bring free, live music to Siskiyou County during the summer of 2017.

The series of seven Friday evening concerts begins June 16 at Hoy Park in Lake Shastina, where Rusty Miller and friends Terry Lawhon, Richard Lucas and Doug York will pay homage to the Grateful Dead with the band called Deady Bears.

The other six concerts will be held on consecutive Friday evenings at Miner Street Park in Yreka, concluding July 28 with the band Decades playing hits from the 1940s to today.

All concerts are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on and pack a picnic.

The June 16 and July 14 concerts will feature Liberty Arts’ Explorations program, which will provide youth arts and crafts activities free of charge.

“We are so pleased to once again provide free, live music to Siskiyou County for families to enjoy,” said Yreka Branch Services Manager Ronda Gubetta. “We’ve got a great lineup this year, and we’ve brought back 2016 season favorite ‘Decades’ to close out the season. We hope to see you at the parks this summer.”

The Summer Concert Series began in 1996 when Scott Valley Bank management, with support from the city of Yreka and many local merchants who joined with the bank to participate as concert sponsors, began its Friday evening concerts in Miner Street Park as a way to provide free, family-friendly entertainment for the local community, according to a press release.

The series has featured concerts in other Siskiyou County venues, from Fort Jones to Mount Shasta, but always with Miner Street Park as the anchor location.
