Daniel Gillies is set to reprise his role as Elijah, one of the Original family members in The Originals, TVGuide.com has learned.
The CW eyes Vampire Diaries spin-off starring Joseph Morgan, Phoebe Tonkin
The upcoming April 25 episode of Diaries will serve as a backdoor pilot for a potential spin-off series that would focus on the Original family. The pilot will follow Klaus (Joseph Morgan) back to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans - a town he helped build centuries ago - where he's reunited with his diabolical former protégé Marcel. Elijah, intent on helping his self-destructive brother find redemption, must side with Marcel's enemies in order to keep Klaus in line.
The potential series would be in second position for Gillies, who is a series regular on Saving Hope, the Canadian series that NBC yanked before its first season ended when it aired last summer. However, CTV announced a second season for summer 2013 in Canada.

Phoebe Tonkin, who plays werewolf Hayley on Diaries, would also star on the series.
