Oscar Producers: Seth MacFarlane Did an "Extraordinary Job"
"We were really, really proud of Seth MacFarlane," Meron told The Hollywood Reporter. "He did the job at we wanted him to do. Seth is irreverent, he comments on things that happen in our culture, and that's what he did and we thought he did an extraordinary job."
MacFarlane's jokes, which included a musical number aimed at the Best Actress nominees called "We Saw Your Boobs," and a joke about Chris Brown and Rihanna, didn't sit well with many viewers and MacFarlane has already said that he won't be back to host the show again.
Addressing the "Boobs" song in particular, Meron said that people who were offended about the bit missed the point. "It was not about the women that were mentioned," Meron said. "The song was about him being a bad host and him being a juvenile, which was why he was a bad host. Everyone who complained missed the joke. It was satire.
"People have complained for years and years that the Oscars were becoming irrelevant," Meron continued. "And I think what we did this year is to really make them part of the cultural conversation, and I think that's the important part that people will take away."
