James Gandolfini's Autopsy Reveals Cause of Death
An autopsy has confirmed that James Gandolfini died of a heart attack and natural causes, TVGuide.com has learned. The autopsy states that nothing else was found in the actor's system.
Michael Kobold, a family friend of the The Sopranos star, released a statement Friday that Gandolfini, 51, suffered the heart attack in the bathroom of his hotel room Wednesday night while vacationing in Rome with his family.
"James came here on vacation with family," Kobold said. "On Wednesday, he went to visit the Vatican, and had dinner at the hotel with his son while waiting for his sister. ... All are devastated for his loss. He was a loving father."
It could take up to 10 days before the actor's body is repatriated to America. Kobold added that the family is hoping to hold a funeral late next week in New York.
Gandolfini is survived by his wife, Deborah, and his son, Michael, 13, and daughter, Liliana, 8 months.
