First 5 California and First 5 Siskiyou will have a Hands-On Health Express exhibit at the Siskiyou Golden Fair this Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9 and 10, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The bilingual traveling health exhibit is aimed at motivating young families to eat right, stay active, and read together daily.

The exhibit has an array of educational activities promoting children’s healthy development and overall well-being.

Children can participate in interactive learning activities and win prizes; while parents gather free resources and learn about ways they can keep their kids healthy, learning, and on a path toward a successful future.

Research shows that a child’s brain develops most dramatically in the first five years, and what parents and caregivers do during these years to support their child’s growth will have a meaningful impact throughout life.

Based on this research, California voters passed Proposition 10 in 1998, adding a 50 cents-per-pack tax on cigarettes to support programs for expectant parents and children ages 0-5.

As part of its public education efforts, First 5 California’s Hands-On Health Express mobile outreach initiative informs thousands of California families every year about early childhood development programs and services.
