Set in the near future, the dystopian sci-fi Western’s first season was set at “Westworld,” an Old West-themed amusement park populated by androids programmed to cater to all needs of humans visitors. As the series progresses, the androids stage a revolution against their creators, eventually leaving the confines of the park and, as seen in the eerie new trailer for season four, they find themselves on the streets of New York City.

What is Westworld about?
The robots have become sentient! That’s the general plot of Westworld, and while it’s a theme explored by other shows that have come before it, including Battlestar Galactica and Humans, Westworld changes things up by setting the series in a not-too-distant future where these androids, called “hosts,” work in a theme park where the patrons are allowed to use and abuse them in any way they like. When the androids realize they are capable of having memories and feelings, they rebel against their creators. Westworld contains twists throughout its first three seasons, including hosts who were previously thought to be humans, as well as hosts that make copies of their bodies. All of these surprises manage to keep the audience on our toes as the human characters and the androids they created grapple with the complexity and dangers of artificial intelligence.
The series features an ensemble cast that includes Evan Rachel Wood, Thandiwe Newton, Ed Harris and Jeffrey Wright. In addition to the already stellar cast, West Side Story actress and Oscar winner Ariana DeBose has been announced as a recurring guest star on the new season. Season four of Westworld will consist of 8 episodes that will air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, and will also be available to stream on HBO Max.
Westworld is a co-production of Kilter Films and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. It is based on the 1973 film written by Michael Crichton.
How can I sign up for HBO Max?
To stream Westworld season 4, subscribe to HBO Max, starting at $10/month or $100/year for the ad-supported plan or $15/month or $150/year for the ad-free version. The $10 plan with ads was launched last June with four significant differences to the $15 ad-free plan. In addition to seeing ads, subscribers to the $10 plan can’t download content to their devices and don’t have the same options to watch select films in 4K HD. They also don’t have the same-day access to Warner Bros. films like Reminiscence or Wonder Woman 1984 on their theatrical release date that subscribers to the $15 ad-free plan do.
If you're a new subscriber, you can sign up at the HBO Max website and download the HBO Max app on a supported device to start watching. HBO Max is currently available on Apple products, Roku streaming devices, Amazon Fire devices, Cox Contour 2 and Contour Stream Players, Google Chromecast, AirPlay, Android phones and TV devices, XBOX One and XBOX Series X|S, Xfinity One and Flex, PlayStation 4 and 5, LG TVs, select Samsung products, Spectrum WorldBox (available in select areas), Vizio SmartTVs and Chrome OS, Mac OS or Windows PC. If you’re worried about connecting to the service, check out their supported devices list for an update on which devices are compatible.
In addition to its slate of original series, HBO Max subscribers can also access the libraries of HBO Originals, Studio Ghibli films, Looney Tunes, DC Films, Cartoon Network Collection, Turner Classic Movies Collection and more.
