Gunman screamed "liar, liar" just before church shooting
“Liar, liar,” a gunman screamed before he shot and killed three people and wounded five others Sunday at a Neosho, Mo., church.
Eiken Elam Saimon, 52, of Neosho, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Monday. He faces first-degree murder charges in the first slayings in the town of 10,500 in at least a decade.
He’s being held on $1 million bail pending a preliminary hearing, which is set for Sept. 18.
Those killed in Sunday's shooting were senior pastor Kernal Rehobson, 43; church deacon Intenson Rehobson, 44; and church deacon Kuhpes “Jesse” Ikosia, 53. Four of the five wounded have been identified as Jim Hardy, Melihna Tarra, Dahnny Jack, and Andy Kendey.??
Newton County Prosecutor Scott Watson said he may ask for the death penalty, if that's what the victims want.
Saimon was wanted in connection with an alleged sexual assault of his 14-year-old niece on Saturday, the day before the church shooting, said Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland.
However, the sheriff said, it is unlikely the man knew officers wanted to question him about the case, as they only had his name and were trying to locate him at the time of the church shooting.??
Officials have not released a motive in the case and have said discussing a motive could jeopardize the case.
