Two men were arrested early Friday after they struck each other in the head with a hammer.

Richard Newsome, 57, struck Eugene Kelly, 38, after an argument, said Lt. James Cole of the Canton Police Department. Newsome had taken the hammer from his neighbor’s truck, reports said.

Police did not know what sparked the fight at 12:49 a.m. at a home in the 1200 block of Logan Avenue NW, “but apparently they didn’t like each other,” Cole said.

Police reports said the men struck each other in the head several times.

Canton Fire Department paramedics took Kelly to Aultman Hospital and Newsome to Mercy Medical Center. Each was treated and released into police custody, Cole said. He said both men were being booked into the Stark County Jail, but information about the charges was not immediately available.
