Hit-and-run driver arrested at home
A Camdenton woman who fled from the scene of an accident was picked up by authorities less than an hour later at her home.
Colleen A. Morales, 42 was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident she allegedly caused while intoxicated Monday about 7:30 a.m.
Morales’ bond was set at $100,000 surety.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on Route 5 when Morales, driving a 1996 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, attempted to make a left turn onto Lake Road 5-88 in the path of another vehicle.
Morales collided head-on with a 1998 Dodge Stratus driven by Christina L. Buchan, 18, of Sunrise Beach, officials said. Passengers Eric N. Baird, 11 and Tryston L. Baird, 9, both of Sunrise Beach, were taken to Lake Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
The report states Morales was not wearing a seat belt. The driver and occupants in the second vehicle were restrained.
After allegedly causing the accident, Morales fled to her home on Bonaire Drive in Camden County. Officers located her just after 8 a.m. and took her to the Camden County Jail.
