VIDEO: Polar express departs Utica

William Cannon

Every year, trains on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad depart Utica’s Union Station for a 2 hour trip to the "North Pole" and back.

The passenger train, that usually gives tours through the Adirondacks, is decorated for Christmas and packed with families in pajamas waiting to see Santa Claus.

After reaching their destination, the child passengers are each presented with a gift from Santa before making the journey back to Utica.
